Car Mechanics!

Scouts have been messing about under car bonnets this term learning how to maintain a car, changing the oil and filters, checking the water and changing tires. Stuart and Mike have instructed them on the basics of car maintenance on the trusty shed.... sorry car.... bought for scouts. Click on the image to see the photos!

brainiac

Brainiac Science abuse!

Brainiac has once again been happening in a scout hut near you! we've been doing lots more  kitchen science that could be done in the comfort if your own home (should anyone be daft enough to let them!!!)

we have been making  waves, lava lamps, balloon skewers, coke fountains, blowing up up marshmallows, making a gas, film vcanister rockets and quite a lot of mess! And maybe even scouts will understand the science behind it! Click on the image for some photos!

PS  - "oil in the lava lamps moves away from the water cos it's just a big wuss"!!!  is not scientific! Whilst I appreciate that hydrophobic might literally mean 'scared of water' just a big wuss will look interesting in your science books on your return to school!!!)

City Visit to London

April 2009

This years city visit was to London and to 'Kip on a Ship' on HMS Belfast.

hms belfast

Scouts again had the exciting opportunity to experience life on board HMS Belfast, sleeping in real sailor’s bunks in two of the ship’s original messdecks.

We visited the Natural History Museum, had special permission from Mr Andrew Mitchell Mp to visit the Houses of Parliament, went to the Cbinet war rooms, went down Downing Street had a tour of the ship and visited RAF Hendon.

HMS Belfast saw service in both the Second World War and the Korean War. HMS Belfast served throughout the Second World War, playing a leading part in the destruction of the battle cruiser Scharnhorst, and also the Normandy Landings.

More information about this historic ship can be found HERE

and check out the gallery for our visit!

Vivre la France!!

Our summer holiday for 2010 year is for a week long adventure holiday with Acorn Adventure in Normandy, France.

Acorn's longest established centre at the seaside town of Hautevillesur-sur Mer offers an excellently balanced and wide range of activities.

canoeing

Just a five minute walk to a long sandy beach where we can spend our evenings playing cricket and rounders, oh... and the pony dance, much to the confusion of the locals....

There is loads to do for all levels of ability. the site isexcellent with a volley ball pitch in the centre and the activities provided are fantastic. We look forward again to John's canoeing which last year was.....spectacular! If is was underwater canoeing that is....

Four Oaks Methodist Church

Just a reminder!

Church Parades are an integral part of the scouting movement and it would be really great if as many Scouts could attend as possible. Below are the dates for this year's parades - please put them in your diary now!

Points for attending will be awarded, and points mean prizes!!
